Day 13- Just a Good Day

The distance was only about 15 miles. The weather was perfect. The route rolled up and down but never too steep. Beauty surrounded me from the ocean to ragged cliffs, to rolling meadows and pastures. To hillsides and mountains including snow capped mountains off in the distance. To rivers and dense woodland. To livestock and singing birds. Mike and I decided to do the route together. We kept a mellow pace so we could enjoy as much of our surroundings as possible. We stopped frequently for pictures or to just take in the view. We stopped for coffee and a snack even though neither felt the need. We just wanted to take in the day. Time goes by much faster when you talk. So the day flew by. All pretty simple stuff. I’ll try it at home when I get back. Rushing hides all this stuff, this beautiful stuff.

Hey Pete- what’s different between the Camino Frances, the Camino Norte and the Via de La Plata (VLDP)? Well, glad you asked. On the Frances- you encounter more Pilgrims than locals. On the Norte- you encounter more locals than Pilgrims. On the VLDP- you don’t encounter either.

Spain is comprised of Autonomous Regions. I started my walk in the Basque Region. In Castro Urdiales, I entered the Cantabria Region. Tomorrow I enter Asturias. Each region puts its own touch to the route markings.

Not gonna lie, I miss Carla and home

I left my razor in the states (on purpose) and my beard is now about as long as my hair. Or should I say as short as my hair.

All really important stuff you should know. Day 13 reads like the B side of a 45- filler. Sorry. Hope the pictures make up for it.

Checking out of my hotel

Mike waiting for me so we can get going. He did that more than once. He’s hiked mountains all over the world. He’s a pro.
